Why go to L.A – on the day that the OSCARS are on, and not camp out at the Kodak Theatre? My next husband George CLOONEY will be there, The Brange, Colin FIRTH, the hot guy from ‘The Hurt Locker’ Jeremy something-something, Robert Downey Junior, Ryan REYNOLDS, Sam WORTHINGTON who made it easier to switch my brain off and enjoy Avatar. And the gowns! The frocks! The glamour!
This is the perfectly reasonable and logical question I have been asking M for the last few days as he has gotten organised for his week away in L.A at a conference for Space Geeks! (haha, it’s my blog, I can call him a giant Space Geek all I like!)
M’s response “I’d rather punch myself in the balls”.
How are we still happily married?? How???
Anyways, to be fair, I’m a little sad that he is going for a whole week as I will be a little lonely/bored in the evenings. But absence makes the heart grow fonder. Or some such trite bollocks. I'll just get to watch more TV that I like!
M has also been teaching me maths. On Friday night while I slaved away making us a delicious pasta meal followed by Caramel Apple Pudding (cause the boy is carbo-loading for all his crazy-arse running – 30km on Saturday, but more on that in a sec) I was quizzed with addition, multiplication, division and fractions. FRACTIONS. F-me I hate fractions. They make no sense. I mean they DO, just not in my head! This all came about because wise and patient Obi-Wan cracked it at me when I happened to ask, just off hand, more speaking out loud than anything, what 250g divided by 2 was (I’m going to stop doing this, I’ll stop using him as a calculator and just use a real calculator , err, I mean, my BRAIN). Anyway, I was resoundingly lambasted and ridiculed. I tactfully pointed out that yelling “are you KIDDING me, don’t be so STUPID” is not the best teaching tactic and doesn’t really make your padewan/student feel that good. I’m pretty sure Yoda never laughed in Luke’s face.
Just saying.
But I digress.
M’s running training continues to go well and I continue to get an, admittedly vicious enjoyment out of the squeals, yelps and filthy language that comes screaming out of our bathroom when he endures an ice-cold bath straight afterwards to help his muscles. He he. He claims it’s worse than running 30km. Um. I don’t think so but I’m CLEARLY not going to try and prove him wrong. But he is going great guns.
What else is new?
The permission to work saga stretches on – it has now been a month since I submitted the papers for my change of status and we still have no clear idea when/if this might happen. And I was meant to start work 2 weeks ago. In the meantime I have been preparing all the course work and emailing it through to various relieving teachers. It is so far from ideal, for me, for the school, for the kids but... yeah, it’s a f-ed situation really and I haven’t been blogging about it as I’m trying really hard to stay positive and not let it get me down as there is literally nothing I can do about it. The school have been terrific but I imagine they will soon lose patience and make contingency plans. And fair enough too.
Finally. M and I are turning into our parents:
He read out updates on the weather and rainfall SIX TIMES YESTERDAY which, while interesting, being that Australia is experiencing a one in a hundred year downpour/flooding yadda yadda yadda, I don’t need bi-hourly updates. Or commentary. Ramsey family who read this – you know I love you, but I had no idea that commentating was genetic!
And me? I had a disagreement with the washing machine due to me not fastening the hose properly (which, btw, I have to do Every. Single. Time I do a load of washing, nearly dislocating my shoulder in the process.) This particular time I hadn’t connected it properly so there was water pissing everywhere. I may have yelled, and huffed, and swore a fair bit, and chucked an empty water bottle across the room in frustration. Remind anyone of someone?
Sheesh. Embarrassing.
That’s all for now – I have a funny story about visiting the Medicare equivalent offices on Friday but I’ll save that for another time.
And finally – on the Oscars, which started this whole rambling blog, I kind of hope that ‘The Hurt Locker’ wins Kathryn Bigelow a Best Director statue. It truly is a great film, sure – not as spectacular as ‘Avatar’ – which I really did enjoy, despite myself, but she’d be the first female to do it AND she’d beat out ex-husband and apparently all-round douchebag James Cameron at the same time. That win would have to feel pretty darn sweet!
I’ve also just realised that we have seen 8/10 of the Best Picture nominees. Might go see ‘An Education’ this week and make it an un-even 9.
