Up above

You may have noticed that there appears to be a bookshelf above this post.

No, you're not going mad, it's really there and it's on purpose.

This, ladies and gentlemens, is called a "Widget" supposedly, and it's a visual demonstration and link to my "bookshelf" on Shelfari - a site run by amazon that lets you quickly create a virtual bookshelf of titles you have read or that you would like to read. It's also a social site in that it allows you to share with your friends what you're reading. Cool ey?

A few of my friends from work use it and, as I am a book whore, I jumped on board.

I have spent the last hour adding some recent and favourite reads and writing brief reviews for a few too.
(See my post below on how well I'm using my time at the moment.
I maintain that Shelfari is closer to my actual work than watching True Blood but ...... yeah ..... still procrastinating.)

I thought I'd share it with you, my bloggy friends, as you might be in the market for a new book and I might be able to help you. That all depends, of course, on your tolerance level for angsty, depressing historical fiction as I seem to read a lot of that .........

Anyway - have a look if you like and if there are others out there who are voracious readers (*cough* Aidan honey, I'm looking right at you!) and like the idea of being able to create a quick and share-able virtual bookcase, then make sure you "follow" me so I can "follow" you back.

This "follow" business is lame isn't it? It's almost as bad as Facebook "Poke".

Happy reading y'all.

Having a few issues

This is pretty much my life at the moment:

And I'm having a teensie bit of trouble getting my head around going back to school and all the preparation I should have done, that I've thus far avoided, so I fall into cyclical patterns of destructive behaviour as follows:

I'm useless. And it's back to work on Thursday.
Freaking. Out

So this afternoon I think I might organise my pencil case and highlight the holiday breaks in my diary ...........
and then maybe watch the latest True Blood episode.

Yeah. That'll work.

Blog the Fug

Hi y'all.

Yes, I'm still alive and kicking.

And by 'alive and kicking' I mean sweltering in our boiling hot apartment and growing increasingly more anxious about the imminenet arrival of la rentrée - which means back to school time in French.

I am coping with the heat, the lack of air-conditioning and my growing list of things to-do the best way I know how: by eating ice blocks and watching Project Runway.

I know I haven't blogged in ages. I have no excuse.

It's not that there hasn't been things to tell you about either: we went on an awesome road trip with Jaime and ate more Wiener Schnitzels than I think is medically advisable, we had some fairly hilarious moments, including a drive that should have taken us 6 hours that ended up taking us 9.5 and saw lots of beautiful parts of Italy, Germany and Austria.

M and I also survived a 10 hour marathon drive home from Munich that took us through 6 countries - including Liechtenstein, which amuses me no end.

I also had a fabulous 2 day break in Provence with some very saucy and entertaining Texan women who made me laugh until I thought I was going to pee my pants.

There's also been beach trips, market visits, lots of good books and films, so it's not like I don't have anything to write about. I'm just in a bit of a blogging fug.

Hopefully my mojo will come back soon.

Until then, I leave you with something amusing:

Update

Just quick-sticks:

We're back in Cannes for 2 days after a great weekend in Paris with Jaime - beautiful sunshine, great food, some sightseeing, a trip to the Musee d'Orsay which I love (and which I get into for free thanks to my nifty "Pass Education" - there are some perks to being a teacher!) and lots and lots of laughs.

We're off to Grasse and Antibes today and then will probably hit Cannes proper and the beaches tomorrow before we head off Wednesday on our road trip through Italy, Austria and Germany.

It's wonderful having Jaime here - we've known each other since we were 2 years old and she's like family, so it's all very relaxed and low-key fun times. And she and M are a comedic duo par excellence.

She also brought a small suitcase overflowing with Twisties, Cherry Ripes, Savoury Shapes and Allens lollies. She knows me so well.

I'll be back in blog land mid next week with lots of photos and hopefully a tall tale or two.

Hope everyone in this hemisphere is enjoying their summer.

Big kisses
